McClain Class of 1967 enjoys 55-year reunion activities July 15-16-17, 2022
The MHS Class of 1967 hasn't slowed down much over the past 55 years, and members enjoyed another successful reunion July 15-17, 2022 with a golf outing a potluck dinner on Friday, a golf outing at Buckeye Hills, a "Meet, Greet and Eat" at Small Town Fitness Center on Saturday, and some dancing in the street during the Greene Countrie Towne Festival, which took place over the same weekend. To wrap up the busy weekend, several members of the class attended the Edward Lee McClain Day activities at the high school on Sunday afternoon and toured the hallowed halls of the school afterwards. Class member Melinda Preston also had an open house at her beautiful place on SR 41 North during reunion weekend.
A big thanks to Dianna Stevens and the Reunion Committee for all the planning and hard work.
Dianna Stevens posted a nice thank you on Facebook, which was copied and pasted below:

Also, a big thanks to the ladies that helped with serving the food. Joyce Benner, Becky Stevens, Sylvia Waddell, Penny Everhart and Salma.
I also want to thank Bruce Baird for allowing us to use the building at the old drive in on Friday night. A group of us met and ate and enjoyed memories and friendship.

‘SOLID GOLD REUNION’ CELEBRATES 50 YEARS!
The McClain Class of 1967 is still going strong, and proved as much at its 50th reunion the weekend of June 30 through July 2, 2017. Many called it the best class reunion yet, and attendance was excellent for this special event.
The weekend started with a golf outing on Friday afternoon at Buckeye Hills that featured three six-person teams. When the golf was finished, several more class members and spouses/significant others joined in the fun at Buckeye Hills for an evening of visiting and reminiscing.
The main reunion event was Saturday, July 1 at Greenfield Eagles Aerie 1325. Upon entering, classmates were impressed at the gold-themed decorations and the faithful reproduction of the vocational building and courtyard where a group of 1967 seniors clandestinely created and hug a huge banner that read: “Juniors! Where were you when the ship hit the sand? Seniors Supreme Class of ‘67”. The perpetrators remain unknown to this day, although several members of the swimming team remain persons of interest.
The evening also featured a tasty meal prepared by Farmhouse Catering and a commemorative cake by Batter Up Bakery.
Entertainment included “special guests” impersonating the Beach Boys, Cher, Patsy Cline, and the Ike & Tina Turner Revue.
Those who served in the military were recognized, and a display was made giving the names of the 51 classmates who have passed away since Graduation Day on Thursday, June 1, 1967.
Colin Kelley brought a sound system and a nice collection of music from the mid- to late sixties brought back many memories as well.
Thanks to the committee for putting together a wonderful reunion that included a program sure to remain a keepsake. The committee included: Margaret Barrett, Kenny Black, Lora Brooks, Linda Brown, Phil Clyburn, Douglas Conklin, Linda Hall, Sandy Mettler, Linda Parrish, Larry Snodgrass, Dianna Stevens, Larry Stuckey, Pam Stuckey, Carolyn Owens and Vicki Unger.
The committee gave special thanks to Christy Larrick of W&W Cleaners and Party Supplies, Mike Seely Photography and to the many people who donated to make the reunion a reality.
Sunday afternoon, July 2, many from the class got together at Mitchell Park in Greenfield for a picnic, visiting, cornhole and pickleball.
In the days following the reunion, Facebook was lit up with photos featuring the Class of 1967. Well done, everyone!
Photos from the Coffey collection are featured here. Hope to see you at the next reunion! - Ron

What a party! Great job by the planning committee, as members of the Class of 1967 celebrated their 45th year class reunion in 2012 with a Hawaiian Luau at the Greenfield Eagles Aerie. Several described the event as our "best ever!"
Pictured below are some photographs taken by Ron Coffey, Linda Beatty Parris, Phil Smalley and others as seen on Facebook. Hopefully the photos convey some of the enjoyment that was experienced by those who attended.
If you missed the reunion, it's a shame, and you were missed. Hopefully we can all get together in 2017 for our 50th!!!

OBSERVATIONS ON OUR 45TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION & MORE
By Ron Coffey, proud member of the McClain Class of 1967 - written in 2012
Just about everyone has them. Some dread them, others look forward to those every-five-year occasions known as class reunions. I’ve always had positive feelings about such things, perhaps because I was fortunate enough to be a member of the McClain High School Class of 1967. Some would say this class was the best ever -- although I remember some teachers during our high school days saying they had heard the rumors about our class, and it looked like we were just as bad as the stories that preceded us. With the benefit of hindsight, I think I can say that we had some brilliant individuals, some real characters, and some who tragically lost their lives while still relatively young men and women. There are no Nobel laureates among us that I know of, nor do I know of any national Hall of Famers (although some would be worthy of local or regional HOF status). At this point in time, the majority of us have lived fairly ordinary lives. In other words, we are a lot like the other classes that have passed through McClain or any other high school.
I’ve attended every reunion since 1972 and wasn’t about to miss the 2012 edition marking 45 years since we commenced our adventure as graduates, even though I had another commitment that same evening and had to leave sooner than I wanted. Earlier in the day, I spotted a shiny object in the dirt of downtown Greenfield and noticed that it was a quarter. Picking it up, I observed that the coin was minted in 1967 -- a good omen indeed!
As we entered the festively decorated Greenfield Eagles Aerie that evening, 30 to 40 of my classmates were on hand, along with a few faculty members from back in the day, including Harry Turner and Fred Raike. One of my classmates, Dean Waddell, who with his wife Sylvia has lived in Texas for many years, attended his very first MHS reunion! Melinda Preston, who has lived in Arizona for years, was present as she has been for most of the class get-togethers. Others came a long way to attend, and some lived within walking distance.
Kenny Black, who retired a few years ago, sported a nice gray ponytail and said he hasn’t had a haircut since just before his retirement. Gary Cooper, another retiree, showed off his skills with a Hula Hoop but unfortunately I had to leave before seeing Gary, with whom I shared many adventures in the 1960s and ‘70s. A highlight of the evening was a dance routine featuring Phil Smalley, Phil Clyburn, Neal McCoppin and Steve Hunter. The decorative theme was a Hawaiian luau, and darned if this brave quartet didn’t put on grass skirts and coconut bras for the occasion! I’m sure this stuff will be making the rounds on Facebook!
At the class picnic Sunday at the Madison Township building, Sandy Hakes Moon brought in some digitized footage from MHS and the Dairy Isle, where some of us used to hang out. There was the young Ron Coffey, dressed in coat and tie for some kind of senior event, goofing around with the likes of Marion Whitley, Bill Collins, Phil Clyburn, Chris Walker and others. I don’t remember being in any videos in 1967. If Sandy can get me a copy I might post it online.
Talking with Dan Babington, I noticed a new tattoo on his right arm, more or less on the inside of his elbow. I commented on the new ink, and he showed me his left arm and a mirror image of the chess piece on his other arm. Noticing that the tattoo on his left arm looked like it had been there for a while, I asked him the story behind the tattoos. Dan explained that he got the first one 35 years ago, and never got around to adding one of the right arm as planned. When he tried to find the pattern, he was unable to do so. Recently he went into a tattoo shop in Hillsboro and asked if the tattoo could be replicated. The artist took a photo of the old tattoo, reversed it and printed it as a guide, and now Dan has a matching set. He said he has felt kind of “incomplete” all these years with just the one tattoo.
Our class reunion and picnic were great, as far as I’m concerned. After 45 years, we’ve given up the idea of trying to impress each other. (Besides, we need name tags to even identify each other!) It's enough just to relax and catch up on each other's lives.
I found a group photo of our class on Facebook and have posted it here. Since I had to leave before the picture was taken, I threatened to add a photo of myself to the group -- a photo from about 20 years ago, just to make me look younger!
In 1967 we were preparing to go out into the world and our class adopted a motto that went something like this: “Today we begin to build yesterday’s dreams into tomorrow’s realities.” Smart-alecks among us might look at our IRAs or other indications of net worth and ask, “How’s that going for you?” But for most of us it was never about money. We are part of a generation that certainly has changed the world, for better or worse. We have conveniences that millionaires could only dream about a century or more ago. From Neil Armstrong’s first step on the moon to the advancement of human rights, giant leaps have taken place. We can argue about whether the world is going to hell in a hand basket or good and getting better, but one thing is certain: it’s been an interesting trip so far!
I hope to see you all in 2017 for the big Five Oh!

ALL CLASS REUNION REPORT - 2011
The McClain All Class Reunion took place July 2, 2011 and it was great! And the decade of the 1960s had by far the largest turnout at the reunion. The Class of 1967 was very well represented. Thanks to Connie Clyburn and her team from the Alumni Association for putting the reunion together. Local band Dumbfounded played at the ACR dance and when it was time to shut down, most of the dancers still on the floor were from the Class of 1967. No surprises there!
Larry and Eleanor Snodgrass graciously hosted a picnic on Sunday, July 3 so we got to enjoy some extra visiting.
Keep in mind that 2012 marks our 45th year since graduation! Hopefully a reunion discussion or two took place during the All Class Reunion.

DIANE MILLER EUBANKS
Classmates have reported that Diane Miller Eubanks passed away in June 2013 in Michigan after a battle with cancer. While we do not have an obituary to post, we do have some memories posted by friends on Facebook and elsewhere.
Larry Snodgrass pointed out that Diane was a queen’s attendant in 1967 at Homecoming.
Charlene Drummond Massey reported, “What a shock! She and I were good friends in school. When we lived in Battle Creek, Michigan we went over to visit her in Kalamazoo, Michigan. That was probably in the late 1970s or early ‘80s. Does anyone remember her step-brother, I think Dutch Purdin?”
“OMGosh! Remember how vibrant Diane always was. Love and prayers to her family. I am so saddened...always thought I’d see her one more time again,” said Patty Jackman Watson.
“So sorry to her loved ones. May God's love ease their heartaches,” said Larry Stuckey, summing up how many of us felt when learning the sad news.
